The Maggie Daley Center

Cancers of the breast and reproductive system affect more than 250,000 women in the United States each year and account for 45 percent of all cancers diagnosed in women. In the wake of a diagnosis of breast or reproductive system cancer, women face a variety of challenges and benefit skilled, compassionate, gender-based care.

Recognizing these important realities, Northwestern established the Maggie Daley Center for Women’s Cancer Care, named in honor of Chicago’s First Lady. Located on the 4th and 5th floors of Prentice Women’s Hospital, the Center is part of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. The Maggie Daley Center is dedicated to meeting the medical, psychosocial, genetic, nutritional, and cosmetic needs of women who have been diagnosed with breast or reproductive system cancer.

Embracing a multidisciplinary approach, the center offers the finest, most contemporary clinical care, while emphasizing innovative research and first-rate medical education. The Maggie Daley Center occupies a dedicated suite on the fourth and fifth floors of Prentice Women’s Hospital. Encompassing nearly 25,000 square feet, this unique facility includes:

  • 24 exam rooms and 6 consultation rooms
  • 11 private chemotherapy rooms and a group chemotherapy areas
  • A distinct Supportive Oncology suite that includes 2 group conference rooms, a private psychology consult room, and a healing boutique
  • A group patient education room.

Since its inception, the Friends of Marlene has raised over $130,000 to provide supportive services for cancer patients at the Maggie Daley Center for Women’s Cancer Care. In 2011, we were pleased to be able to dedicate a patient exam room in Marlene’s honor. The naming of the room for Marlene is a testimony to the Friends of Marlene and the Palmerson Family for their dedication in insuring the continuation of this Legacy of Care.

Below appear just a few of the many comments that patients have shared about their experiences with the Maggie Daley Center’s services and care providers:

“Thank you so much for the wonderful program that you have put in place for cancer patients. I’ve been fortunate enough to receive both acupuncture and massage because of your generosity. I feel great and am looking forward to continuing my treatments at Prentice. You and the staff here should be very proud of the great work you do.”

“I probably never would have received acupuncture, were it not for this program. Acupuncture has
helped tremendously with my neuropathy, headaches, and nausea. It also is amazing to have the acupuncture during [chemotherapy] treatment.”

“I have done one treatment of acupuncture so far, and it has helped me deal with the anxiety related to a recurrence of cancer. I think worrying is the worst part of this ordeal. I would like to contribute to this program however I can.”

“I am so grateful for this program. It is so great to have someone really understand the problems and complications that cancer causes. Everyone is so kind and understanding. I thank you all!”

“I want to help spread the word about this wonderful program and the caring, supportive staff.  I hope more and more cancer patients will become aware of all these services and their value.

Gilda's Club Chicago Partnership

Gilda's Logo

Friends of Marlene is pleased to announce that as of July 1, 2017 we will exclusively partner with Gilda's Club Chicago.  We have had seven great years of fundraising on behalf of Northwestern Memorial Foundation, The Maggie Daley Center and The Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University.  We will close our formal relationship with Northwestern having raised $500,000. Having funded many different supportive services at Northwestern, one that we will continue to financially support and are most proud of is the "Patient Notebook".  This has become an essential tool for patients, providing critical information and a place to chronicle the patient journey. We are deeply grateful to Northwestern for their support and great work. We are delighted to broaden our scope of support to include not only cancer patients, as well as their families friends and caregivers, through our relationship with Gilda's Club Chicago.
